Who knew a mere butcher and a low class saiyan could grow so strong with just a bit of time in other world? Within this timeline Gine and Fasha found they had wells of potential without the restrictions of a physical form. Breaking through the super saiyan barrier and soon reached the pinnacle of saiyan transformation SSJ4.

The two right in the middle of a sparring session their auras clashing in a dazzling golden light. “I think you’ve been slacking on your training. You getting comfy having such a high power level?” Gine said with a bit of a mocking tone with her body similar to Broly in terms of build. A heavy contrast to the heavyweight Fasha.

What do you think of the Saiyan's overall redesign in the DBS Broly Movie? Personally, I didn't like how they really stuck to that, "All Saiyans have black hair," thing. I thought the original King Vegeta and Saiyans surrounding him looked more interesting in DBZ. They even had a blonde guy when KV blew up those planets lmao (if only they knew)

I know the guy your talking about. He's from the flashback montage right before Vegeta dies.

Of course, his pal over there is rocking an SSJ4 Gingergeta look too, so this shot is pretty wild for a bunch of reasons. And then King Vegeta raises his hand and blows up three planets, including the one they're standing on, so I don't know what to make of that.

Anyway, as far as the hair color goes, the black-hair-only rule came from the scene where Vegeta disputes Trunks' claim to be a Saiyan, so the rule didn't exist back when DBZ Episode 86 was made. We can still interpret this in a few ways.

Vegeta was just stone cold wrong. I say this a lot, but it bears repeating: Most of what we know about Saiyans comes from Vegeta, but he's not an infallible source. There's bound to be things he doesn't know or couldn't know, and he probably still clings to a lot of propaganda fed to him in his youth.

The flashbacks aren't meant to be taken literally, and this could just be a coloring error in an otherwise consistent portrayal of the Saiyans.

The blonde guy could be a half-Saiyan like Trunks.

Nonetheless, once Toriyama laid down the black hair rule, it appears to have been followed pretty closely, except...

Nion, one of the scientists in the nursery in DBS: Broly, has dark blue hair. Maybe indigo? You get the idea. I don't think this is a trick of the light, either, since King Vegeta's in this scene, and his hair looks black. Nion clearly has a different hair color.

At first, I wondered if this meant she wasn't a Saiyan. Nion doesn't appear to have a tail either, and her uniform is too form-fitting for her to stuff it inside her clothes like her robed co-workers. But by all accounts, she seems to be a Saiyan character, and it makes sense. She speaks rather hopefully of Broly possibly becoming the next Super Saiyan, and one of Frieza's bootlicks wouldn't be nearly so enthusiastic when speaking of such a thing.

So what's up with Nion? Well, it's probably the same story as that blonde guy from DBZ 86. She colors her hair, or she's got some alien ancestry, or maybe there's more to Saiyans than Vegeta knew. My guess is that the movie was trying to show that there's a particular fashion among Saiyan scientists. The men in this scene all had very short, more "conventional haircuts". They also wore long choir robes. Nion has a different look, but there's like nine other women in the nursery with the exact same style, suggesting that they all wear that look to signify their profession. So maybe the blue hair is part of that, or Nion picked it up while she was at space college or something.

So from a hair standpoint, I think they just kind of ended up back where they started. Pure-blooded Saiyans may all start with black hair, and most of them stay that way, but a few Saiyans seem to develop an interest in coloring their hair for cosmetic reasons.

No, the main change I noticed from the Broly movie was that most of the Saiyan uniforms we saw were black and/or blue, which is kind of a shame, because I liked the various colors used in DBZ. Bardock had his green and black armor, Fasha/Seripa had pink, Towa had Carolina Tarheel blue, and so on. The movie also did Paragus dirty, because Paragus looked like the fuckin' man in Movie 8, and his DBS looks were all a downgrade.

At least Gine got pink wristbands and sort of a dark teal outfit. That might be closer to green, but I can't tell. Anyway, I get it, they're uniforms. The whole point is that everyone looks the same. Still, I liked the idea that someone could requisition a hot pink and lime green armor and it was totally cool.

Ultimately, flashback scenes like these don't carry that much weight, since they're always susceptible to another retcon. One of these years, they'll do some "Andor"-style series about the Saiyan/Tuffle War, and we'll see a whole other depiction of Saiyans that will turn all of this on its ear, and I'll probably be coming up with some other rationale to make it all fit together.

Mostly, I'm just glad we got a peek into Saiyan culture beyond the front-line warriors in the DBZ flashbacks. Nion and her colleagues raise more questions than answers, but I'm still grateful for the questions. I think fans have postulated characters like Beetz and Gine for a long time, and the movie confirms that there was definitely more to Saiyan society than fighting.

I don't quite recall if this was ever asked before here or if you'd already explained this at a prior point (sincere apologies, I'm usually good about remembering this kind of stuff😅), but I wanted to ask what inspired you to create the Sento Saiyans AU?

I also wanted to ask because I've thought about toying around with the idea of different kinds of Saiyans as well at one point or another with a few friends here and there, albeit with more of an idea of them being based on different primates (f.ex Silverback Gorillas) or even regional variants (f.ex Saiyans who were more acclimated to the tropics).

It's mainly going back from when I first saw the Saiyan saga in highschool and it touched a bit on Saiyan culture. I had wanted to know more about Saiyans from them on past what what we had seen from the royal throne or Bardock's perspective. This was before Super.

When Super introduced the multiverse into canon, that was a perfect opportunity for them, I felt. If you can have Saiyans who evolved with no tails, then you can have the opposite end of the spectrum and have all full furry-like saiyans who evolved in the image of the Oozaru. SSJ4 was a taste for me of that concept and I decided to chase after it fully. Now here we are

Drew some Xenoverse 2 screenshots but added what my XV2 Saiyan CAC actually looks like.

They got a whole backstory and lore for them and is the Conton Hero having to do all the work while XV1 Majin CAC Caramella and Trunks go on dates or whatever they’re doing when not fighting Mira or breaking rules.

Will do the Extra Story content with Bardock and will aid Fu cause she wants to see what shit happens if she does.

Meant to wear Bido’s coat up she has a black shirt like bottom left, Zangya’s gloves and her pants and skirt, and I forgot the boots. No accessory but to look more like the design I have for her, I use the SSJ4 wig.

MEET FUTURE GOKU FROM FIRE EMBLEM: BLOOD OF THE BLUE FLAME DRAGON × DRAGON BALL SUPER: WAR GOD OF FLAMES

Bio: The father of two sons, Future Gohan and Future Goten. He also raised Future Shigure and Future Xenia after his long-time friend, Future Ike died at the hands of Future Validar. During his fight with Zamasu, he got scarred on his left eye from the slash incoming from Zamasu. He is very capable of transforming into SSJ4.

PERSONALITY: Future Goku, like his main counterpart is an energetic, kindhearted, pure heart and caring, but is serious and strict who takes care of his sons and his long-time friend's children (After he died). I finished Daima! Thoughts below the cut for spoilers and general length.

Nothing like some honest to god good Dragon Ball to make you realize how much you've been shafted. Seriously the series hasn't been this good since Battle of Gods and frankly it's been ridiculous that it took them this long to make an honest to good STORY. Nearly every arc in Super is just a paper thin clotheslines to hang fights on with next to no emotional resonance. The only exception was the Goku Black Arc, which rather infamously shit the bed in the end (not that it didn't have many misteps on the way there). Broly came close but my god was there so much about it that just didn't work. And to be frank I kinda tuned out after it. I don't give a shit about Moros or Granolahs or Ultra Egos or Black Freezas and especially Bardocks. Heard Super Hero was good but didn't care to watch.

And I wasn't gonna watch this but they made got convinced by a youtuber I follow. And my am I glad I did. This is the closest to old school Dragon Ball's vibe they've even attempted since GT, and it is leaps and bounds better than that. It's also strangely indebted to GT/Boo era Dragon Ball despite being more evocative of Pilaf/Red Ribbon era Ball. It makes for nice hybrid that channels some of the best parts of the series but without feeling like a full on cheap nostalgia fest.

Not to say there aren't shortcomings. In fact I think the pacing and exposition dump of the first episode is fairly awkward. But once we get that out of the way we hit a run of episodes that feels nothing short of magical. The wandering through this broken land and bonding with these characters yearning for freedom, but suffering because they were born in the wrong place? So good! And it gives the story STAKES! I know there are some stakes that won't happen but we accept for the sake of narrative. But if your stakes are guy is going to wipe out all the universes or destroy Earth or whatever, I DO NOT CARE. But Panzy and her friends in Demon World 3?? Who knows! Glorio could die! I dunno! And even more importantly than that, what about their livelihood. Will these people liberate themselves? The shit matters!! And it plays right into the atmosphere of the show and raises it above the caliber of kids smashing action figures together.

Speaking of atmosphere, can we talk about that theme? So good. I didn't even hate Super's first theme, but this is so good, a great mix of mystical and fun. Ah good song. Closing theme is also perfectly melodramatic. Also the opening credits don't look better than the show. Because they actually gave a shit about the quality of one of the most popular franchises in the world!!! It all looks so damn good with really only a minor drop of quality as we approach the climax. Like I know it's talked to death, but it is just more and more shocking how dirty they did Super on this front. Care about the fucking product Toei!

I will say the back half started to lose me a bit. We transition more into fighto fighto waku waku territory and the story suffers. It also doesn't help that the antagonist doesn't really work on this front. Gomah is great up until he becomes a "serious" villain. He's a maniacal little gremlin man, and demon napoleon. He has the charm of a Pilaf, and I love the exaggerated animations they give him. Then they introduce a plot item halfway through*, give it to him, and he hulks out. He still looks ridiculous, but now it's no charming. Didn't care for it, though as the fight went on there was still some legitimately great animation.

Now I gotta talk about Super Saiyan 4. Look. GT is dumb. SSJ4 is a mixed bag. In that show it's a literal ass pull. But it has its plusses. I like how the Ape man motif ties a little into what makes Saiyans special. I also like that unlike some of the other transformations, SSJ4 is brought on by empathy. Goku is raging Big Ass Ape, but his humanity ultimately reigns supreme. His love of his grand daughter brings him back and actually makes him stronger. Unlike SSJ1 & 2, it's the power of love, not rage, that brings it out.

Daima doesn't really mess with that at all. Instead Neva (secretly the worst character) just magics him and he gets stronger. This is the most nostalgia bate the whole thing gets. It's a fairly poor implementation and it could have been anything else honestly. BUT, we do improve on a couple things. In GT SSJ4 randomly makes Goku an adult again with no explanation. They coulda did that but they didn't! We get to see kid Goku SSJ4! It's a cool look. Also in general the animation of the form (and everything else) is leagues better than GT.

Anyway despite that BIG FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT climax, the ending is terrific. I love that Goku literally blows a hole between the demon realms, effectively freeing the people. I'm glad the big damn hero was Kuu. Love that guy! I love that unlike Super we actually got a half decent resolution and get to hang with these characters after the action ends! I'm glad we didn't half to deal with any fusions. They can be fun but they NEVER work with the arc thematically. They stuck the landing and had great payoff for these characters we met along the way other than "didn't die."

I've been cool with Dragon Ball not continuing for years now honestly. It's gone on forever, and since the mid 90s it's been bad more than it's been good. But I am glad this existed and I'm glad Toriyama went out with a winner. This feels like a solid place to end his era of Dragon Ball, which is a bit of a shame since for the first time in forever we have new characters I like! But I don't know if I trust these other writers with them. Could you imagine what they would have done in Super? Glorio and Panzy would have a million transformations where the only difference is their hair color!? They would have carted out Freeza for the millionth time. God, this was against all odds such a refreshing entry in the sea of later day Dragon Ball. I really liked it. I want more but don't need it. The perfect feeling after a finale.

*the post credit scene really took some of the sting off of this, but it didn't undo the fact that watching it I felt really annoyed by the special eye macguffin. It could have been set up way better and still keep the fun reveal at the end.
